Firm Anniversary Marked with Expansion and Growth

Roberts, Matejczyk & Ita (RMI), a pioneer law firm in insurance subrogation, celebrates its 35th anniversary this coming month. Since its founding, RMI has remained steadfast in its original vision: to concentrate exclusively on all areas of insurance subrogation law.

“This milestone reflects decades of hard work, innovation, and a relentless focus on client success,” said Glenna Roberts, President of RMI. “We have enjoyed growth across all areas of our subrogation law practice. The firm’s expertise and dedication to this area of the law have positioned us over the years as a trusted partner for insurers.”

RMI holds the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent designation—the highest possible rating for legal ability and professional ethics. The firm’s client base includes some of the nation’s largest insurers as well as respected regional carriers. RMI’s expansion from its Ohio roots now includes representation in Indiana and Kentucky, with licensed attorneys in all three states. The firm’s expansion and growth in all divisions have included its seasoned attorneys and staff now being complemented with the addition of new attorneys and paralegals.

The RMI Auto Division, led by Amanda Martanovic, has seen a surge in assignments. Further underscoring RMI’s involvement at the industry level, Martanovic has been selected for the sixth consecutive year to serve as an Auto Track Leader for the upcoming National Association of Subrogation Professional’s Annual Conference (NASP) in San Diego, California. RMI is believed to be one of the industry’s first law firms to develop software specifically tailored to subrogation recoveries. The auto division has continually updated its IT infrastructure to stay ahead of the evolving legal and regulatory landscape.

The Property Division, led by Dustin Smith and David Matejczyk, has built a reputation with significant six and seven digit recoveries through settlements and litigation. Smith’s engineering background—spanning electrical circuits, mechanical systems, and thermodynamics—has proven invaluable in complex investigations. Matejczyk attributes the property division success to the firm’s immediate response, coordination of proper experts, and decades of building relationships with public and private investigators. RMI has coordinated hundreds of forensic examinations involving fires, explosions, product failures, and construction defects.

Under the guidance of Tim Ita, the Health Care/Workers Compensation Division handles a wide range of recovery scenarios, from routine claims to highly complex litigation involving health care, workers’ compensation and contested medical pay assignments.

RMI’s continued growth includes the addition of counsel licensed across three states—Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, further strengthening the firm’s regional reach and responsiveness. Jason Pickell, a native of Indiana, practices in both Ohio and Indiana, contributing to both the Auto and Property Divisions with a hands-on approach to investigation and litigation. Smith also holds licenses in both Ohio and Indiana. Jake Liebas joined RMI this year following several years with the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office. Licensed in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, he brings precision and professionalism to all aspects of property and automobile subrogation cases, further enhancing the firm’s multi-state capabilities.

RMI’s history is deeply rooted in its involvement with the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP), an organization comprised of insurers, experts, and legal counsel dedicated to advancing the subrogation industry. A founding member of NASP, RMI helped shape NASP’s early direction and continues to contribute to its mission. Both Matejczyk and Roberts are past board members of the organization. Matejczyk served as Conference Chairman for three of NASP’s annual national conferences, and twice was recipient of the NASP President’s Award. Roberts was a past recipient of the NASP Board Member of the Year Award.
